Michelle & Dale ~ Seattle, WA ~ July 2010

Back in July, I had the opportunity to photography my first outdoor wedding ceremony.  It was an absolutely gorgeous day.  The sun was shining, the weather was warm, and we were surrounded by beautiful roses and fountains.  The day continued with a fun and intimate reception at a home on the Eastside, where there was much dancing, talking, eating, and laughing.

Family & Pet Portraits ~ Olympic Peninsula, WA ~ August 2010

Almost everyone loves vacation.  As such, I think vacation spots can be one of the best places to have a family portrait session.  Most vacation spots are quite scenic, and most people are happier and more relaxed on vacation.  Plus every time you look at the family portraits on the wall/mantle, you think of all the fun you had on vacation!

For this family, their holiday/summer cabin has been the destination for many fun and relaxing days.  And lucky for us, the rain held out and Grant (the dog) behaved extremely well.

Austin & Renee ~ Buffalo, NY ~ June 2010

I began this past year’s wedding season by flying out to photograph Austin and Renee’s wedding in Buffalo, NY.  I had an amazing time.  I especially enjoyed how Austin and Renee (and the bridal party) expressed their personalities in various ways throughout the day… everything from Renee’s sparkly red Converse shoes to to the amazing food selection to the enthusiastic “thumbs up” gestures during the portrait session… it was great.

The two of them were particularly excited that Renee’s uncle drove them away from the church in his Cadillac Eldorado.  Other highlights include the two Mary Kay representatives who did all the girls’ makeup, the trolley that drove the bridal party to the various wedding day destinations, and the impromptu game of “Jarts” that was played at the reception (“Jarts” a lawn dart game that Renee’s family has traditionally played at large gatherings).

Fall Retreat & Playing with HDR

I’ve always been very intrigued by HDR (high dynamic range) photography.  Not only are the technical concepts behind HDR rather fascinating– the photos look cool!

I’ve tried it out on numerous occasions but it’s usually been somewhat of a disappointment…  The techniques I tried were either too labor intensive or produced only mediocre results.  Fortunately, I ran across Ferrell McCollough’s book, Complete Guide to High Dynamic Range Digital Photography, while wandering around the library one day.  From this book, I learned many of the secrets used to create good HDR photographs… one of which is using HDR software, such as Photomatrix Pro.

Below are some of my first experimentations creating HDR photographs with Photomatrix.  I’m quite happy withe results.  I’m definitely looking forward to trying it out on some of my architectural photography.

And oddly enough, after a beautiful fall day on Saturday, it snowed…  a little early for snow if you ask me, but it was pretty and everyone got home safely, so I guess it’s okay.
